There is a need to develop further the Basic Needs Model to examine the issues related to environment, sustainability and the quality of Life. In several countries, both developed and developing, no attempt has been made to establish theoretical and empirical links between needs and degradation of the environment. We propose to develop several models to capture these links in partial and general equilibrium settings. The empirical work will also be carried out in both settings to test various hypotheses that are developed.
